The energy in Reading is about to reach a fever pitch! On Sunday, 22 March, thousands of runners from elite athletes chasing personal bests to first-timers embarking on their very first 13.1-mile journey—will take to the streets for the iconic Green Park Reading Half Marathon.
Whether you’re lace-up ready or planning to cheer from the sidelines, here is everything you need to know about one of the UK’s most beloved road races.
More Than Just a Race
The Green Park Reading Half Marathon isn’t just a physical challenge; it’s a massive community milestone. In 2025 alone, runners raised over £500,000 for various charities. The Route: Scenic, Historic, and Iconic
This single-lap, traffic-free course is designed to show off the best of Reading. It’s undulating and engaging, ensuring you never get bored of the view.
Course Highlights:
The Start: Kick off in the beautiful surroundings of Green Park.
The Landmarks: Wind through the University of Reading grounds, run under The Oracle, pass the historic Abbey Arch, and wave to the Maiwand Lion.
The Mystery: Keep your eyes peeled for a special surprise at Mile 8!
The Grand Finale: Experience the “Stadium Roar” as you finish on the halfway line inside the Reading Football Club Stadium.
Important Information for Residents & Travellers
With thousands of runners hitting the pavement, there will be significant changes to local traffic. If you’re planning to travel on race day, plan ahead and allow extra time.
Road Closures: Rolling closures will be in effect between 6:00 AM and 4:00 PM. Roads will reopen as soon as it is safe to do so.
Parking: Most town centre car parks remain open. However, The Oracle Riverside will not open until 12:40 PM (use Oracle Holy Brook instead).
Retail & Services: Smallmead Recycling Centre and access to Link Retail Park will open around 2:30 PM.
