Overlooking Wallingford’s market square, the Grade II listed building in St Martin’s Street that was once home to the town’s prominent post office, first re-opened its doors as an Oakman Inn in 2009. In addition to bearing the same name, The Old Post Office features many of the original elements, including the Victorian counter, and the traditional red post box situated in our front courtyard.

Open from morning to late, we serve locally and regionally sourced food with a Mediterranean influence in our large, elegant open plan dining room. Guests can watch as our chefs prepare our extensive and varied menu in our open kitchen, which at its heart features a charcoal-fuelled Josper grill and wood-fired pizza oven.
And whether you’re tempted by traditional home comforts ,or prefer to indulge in freshly made Calzone, you’ll find everything cooked to perfection. Most dietary requirements are met with ease, and families can choose from dishes that go beyond the standard fare for children.

Throughout The Old Post Office, our interior is welcoming and spacious, with snug bar areas and a comfortable lounge. Our central location makes us a hive of local activity that’s as suited to couples as it is to colleagues enjoying a drink after work.

A few friends recommended this place, so we decided to give it a try. The experience started off well enough—we were seated quickly, and the restaurant wasn’t too busy. The seating was comfortable, and the coffee was decent, though nothing special. However, the meal itself left much to be desired. We ordered our food and ended up waiting nearly an hour for it to arrive. I understand that there was only one chef in the kitchen, which could explain the delay, but unfortunately, the quality of the food was disappointing. We ordered several poached eggs, and out of six, four were fully cooked through, including the yolk, which gave them an odd texture. The hash browns, although they didn’t look appetizing—they resembled a used sponge—actually tasted alright. However, paying £15 for a full English breakfast that looked and tasted like this felt excessive. We also tried the salmon avocado toast, but it was another letdown. The toast was burnt, and the avocado was stiff, clearly not ripe yet. Another aspect that could use improvement is the cleanliness and overall tidiness of the place. At one point, the waiter dropped a piece of cutlery on the floor and then placed it back on the table for customer use, which was concerning. In summary, while the restaurant has some positives, the food and attention to cleanliness need serious work. Sadly, I wouldn’t recommend coming here for breakfast given our experience.

Met a vegan friend in Wallingford and picked here. After our first burger choice ended up being closed for lunches now. Did not know it was an Oakman Inn at first but raised my expectations. Nice pint of Urquell. Bit of a language problem with the host but we eventually sat where we wanted and were served by a nice lady who was quite thorough. Vegan garlic cheesy bread was a nice pizza base, crunchy cauliflower was tasty with a sweet sauce but baba ganoush wasn’t smoky nor much tahini present. Burger was really good as at all their places, love the pickles and mustardy burger sauce. I know Wallingford isn’t exactly destination dining but the place wasn’t very busy on a Thursday. Nice enough experience although bathrooms were a little tired/afterthought. Still, I’d go back in a pinch.

Brilliant food. Burger and chips were brilliant, profiteroles were lovely and light. There were a few things they’d ran out of on the menu but we did go in fairly late during lunch service.

Great place. Thoroughly enjoyed our food - top quality, and some unique elements to the menu. Waiting staff were very good - attentive at the right times, polite and friendly, and good timing between courses. Atmosphere also good - slightly spaced out tables, but definitely a restaurant feel as opposed to a pub.
