Overlooking Wallingford’s market square, the Grade II listed building in St Martin’s Street that was once home to the town’s prominent post office, first re-opened its doors as an Oakman Inn in 2009. In addition to bearing the same name, The Old Post Office features many of the original elements, including the Victorian counter, and the traditional red post box situated in our front courtyard.
Open from morning to late, we serve locally and regionally sourced food with a Mediterranean influence in our large, elegant open plan dining room. Guests can watch as our chefs prepare our extensive and varied menu in our open kitchen, which at its heart features a charcoal-fuelled Josper grill and wood-fired pizza oven.
And whether you’re tempted by traditional home comforts ,or prefer to indulge in freshly made Calzone, you’ll find everything cooked to perfection. Most dietary requirements are met with ease, and families can choose from dishes that go beyond the standard fare for children.
Throughout The Old Post Office, our interior is welcoming and spacious, with snug bar areas and a comfortable lounge. Our central location makes us a hive of local activity that’s as suited to couples as it is to colleagues enjoying a drink after work.

a week agoWhilst the staff are friendly and the food is good, the management is poor. Ever since it’s left Oakman’s it’s gone downhill. The booking system doesn’t work properly on mobiles, the place is tired and needs decorating and multiple dishes were off the menu at 7pm. The floors were filthy, not enough waiting staff, and slow service. The toilets strewn with toilet rolls, broken doors, broken fan. It’s a shame. The venue is great - it’s just needs investment, managing and staffing better.
