If you’re tired of loud, overcrowded Oxford pubs, then The Chequers should be your next stop.
It’s not a huge pub—it’s a cozy, atmospheric place where everyone is kind to one another. It’s located in the middle of a beautiful English village. At the back of the pub, there’s a garden with tables and a tent where live music is played and you can dance!
I don’t know who the chef is, but they must be a specialist in Chinese cuisine—someone who has cooking in their blood and heart! The chili sauce served with prawn crackers is divine. The sweet and sour shredded beef is out of this world! And their prawn toast—I could eat it for breakfast, lunch, and dinner!
And what about the service? They’re there, yet it’s as if they’re not. They recommend what to eat, make sure your glass of wine is always full, but move around quietly like ghosts. Fantastic service! You can truly relax and enjoy the flavors.
Our visit to The Chequers was exceptionally pleasant. The atmosphere, the food, and the peace and quiet—what more could you want? The Chequers completely changed my opinion of loud Chinese restaurants filled with flashy decorations. It was a great escape from crowded Oxford. We will definitely be coming back.
Ordered a chinease this evening crispy chilli beef was hard chicken curry had zero flavour about it same with the chicken chow mein wouldn’t recommend would go else where
We ordered a takeaway it was awful the crispy chilli beef so hard you could loose a tooth on ! The chow mein full of onion and so so greasy didn’t eat ! Waste of money but can’t seem to find how to message the restaurant
