a week agoWe recently visited Elephant Bar & Indian Restaurant in Basingstoke and overall had a pleasant experience, though there’s definitely room for improvement on the food front. To start with, the location is great – plenty of parking and a spacious layout. The ambience is warm and inviting, with a modern yet relaxed vibe. The addition of a pool table adds a fun touch and makes it a nice spot to unwind with friends or family. The starters were definitely the highlight. The popadums served with mint and mango chutney were fresh and flavourful, and the chips were well cooked, crisp, and enjoyable. The chicken tikka masala starter was also very good, with well-balanced spices and tenderness. However, the main course didn’t quite meet expectations in terms of authentic Indian flavours. The chicken tikka masala in the main course was noticeably on the sweeter side. The palak paneer was cooked in a different style than typically expected, with the spinach left unblended, which changed the usual creamy texture. On a positive note, the service was excellent. The staff were warm, polite, and very attentive. A special mention to the lady who served us — she took great care of us throughout the meal and made us feel welcome. Overall, Elephant Bar has a lot going for it in terms of its ambience, service, and starters. With some refinement toward more authentic flavours in the main dishes, it has the potential to be an even better dining experience.
