in the last weekHad a dinner party with 15 workmates here. The staff and service were excellent. The food is great with lovely private dining areas. They really made sure we all had a wonderful time and ample parking is an added bonus. Absolutely loved this place!

a week agoLast time we visited here it was ‘Sands’ and we were under-whelmed. Not this time! The whole restaurant now has the look of an upmarket, may I suggest Michelin-starred, restaurant with its enticing bar area and open kitchen that you walk past to get to the comprehensive and top-notch seating area. We had a light starter of sourdough with a lovely flavoured salty butter, some gorgeous olives (and I’m not even a big fan of them!)and hummus & flatbreads which was more than enough for the 4 of us. Main course, rather than the roast sirloin which 2 of us had (and I must say looked lovely with enormous Yorkshires), I went for the monkfish with rainbow chard, clam chowder and a side dish of lovely smooth pomme puree. Monkfish nicely cooked. Wife went for the Gosling steak burger, that obviously wasn’t Gosling but medium cooked steak. Thumbs up for this but still doesn’t reach my homemade burger standards by all accounts! Dessert was panacotta with a very wobbly wobble, with honeycomb - my only gripe was the honeycomb was lovely but only one small piece - come on guys, this a bit stingy to say the least. One amusing point was when I ordered a pint of TEA from the Hogs Back Brewery and the waiter arrived with a very elegant teapot! He whisked it away with a slightly annoyed look on his face whilst it would have been easier to have a laugh about it!! Thoroughly enjoyable afternoon, attentive staff, great food and very good vibe.
